Michael is a trained ecologist with over 15 years in ecological surveys and monitoring, project design and management. His engagement in the field of information generation provided him with a strong background in policy advocacy and environmental regulatory instrument strengthening at both national and international levels. He has practical field experience in ornithological surveys in addition to broad experience in terrestrial ecology. He has done surveys in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi. 

Michael worked as the Programme Manager and Acting Executive Director of NatureUganda with experience in managing projects in ecological monitoring, species monitoring, community participation in nature management and the national ecological networks. Michael has been involved in many national level planning processes, institutional level planning processes and project level planning processes. This is in relation to strategic planning in and outside Protected Area systems and other biodiversity hotspots and with related programmes.

He has good understanding of policy and governance in the field of environmental management and has participated in production of guidelines in the areas of by-laws and ordinances, managerial tool-kits and with good understanding of environmental regulatory instruments. Michael has demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders both international and national and working with a broad range of subjects in the areas of conservation and development. Michael represented NatureUganda in various National Technical Committees such as National Biodiversity off-sets Task Force at National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and Environment Advisory Group at Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development and Technical Biodiversity Committee of NEMA.
